Desert Drags

This past Sunday we decided to venture forth to the little desert town of Osoyoos for a little unsanctioned drag racing at the local air strip. This organization called the "Wine Country Racing Association" started this drag strip at a functioning air strip with cooperation from the city to provide an outlet for us sick minded drag racer types and to curb the urge of street racing. You can get all the details and full story of it's inception here. http://www.winecountryracing.ca/ They are still working out many of the details involved in running a smooth operating facility but they're on the right track. Although VHT was in heavy use at the starting line for a traction aid, we still had problems hooking up and after talking with many fellow racers it was apparent that the problem was shared by everyone. We opted to race in "Pro Bracket" like we normally do instead of their other option of "Pro Warrior" which was more of a heads up class. It just seemed a bit too Xena warrior princess for us. We managed to go rounds and for the first time actually made it to the finals which hopefully breaks our semi-finals curse. Alas we succumbed to a second place finish, handing the trophy to a fellow Thunder Mtn racer in a '65 Coronet. It was a .488 red that clinched the deal for us, a mere .012 of a second from victory. This however never gets us down and losing to someone you actually like and respect makes it even easier. An over-all great day at the track. The next race day is in two weeks on Oct.5th and... wait a minute, isn't that my birthday...so it is, so it is. We will be convoying down on Saturday night and tearing the roof off that little town before the final race of the season. Hope to see you there.
